Do you like to see a movie that follows the book word for word?

Do you fell that defeats the purpose of seeing a movie if it is a re-enactment of the book? Or do you like having the characters repeat everything they said and did from the book onto the big screen? Do you like Hollywood to take a little liberty with a book turned into movie or do you think Hollywood should just do it word for word? Why?

I like when Hollywood takes liberties with the books. I like to see other people's points of view on how a certain thing really looked, or how the plot could have been altered like so, and all that.

For example, I love what they did with HP6. I love how they altered Cormac McLaggen's character to make him more funny and entertaining. I didn't mind that they basically took out Tonks and Lupin's relationship, and I loved the *way* that, instead, Luna found Harry in the train. But they also kept to some of the details, like those birds Hermione sent after Ron, and Luna's giant lion hat. (There were only two things I'd have changed- the way they hid the HBP's book, and the nonexistant battle at the end.)

I think a movie should stick to the book, plot-wise. But details which don't necessarily have an effect on the plot can be tampered with. Honestly, I don't see the point in watching a movie that copies the book word-for-word. If I wanted all that, I'd just read the book again. For example, I tried to sit down and watch the BBC series of one of the Jane Austen books, thought I can't remember which one it was. Pride and Prejudice, maybe. Anyway, I thought it was dull and uninteresting and I prefer the newer version with Keira Knightley much more. The actors are very true to their book counter-parts, the plot is the same but more exciting than the BBC series one....

Oh, and why. Well, movies are a form of art. I, personally, love to see different takes on things. I like seeing how other people get creative with things I'm already familiar with. (I also like reading Harry Potter fanfics and looking around deviantart.com for HP-inspired fan art.) Movies are another way to see this.
