Victorian art - A cultural voyage

Victorian Era was marked by development of a strong educated middle class, industrial as well as self development, and improvement of scientific theories and there was also a marked change in the thinking of the people. This golden period was considered to be the great revival of art and architecture. New designs and forms can be seen in the art of the Victorian period.

Victorian Art

Victorian Era is named after Queen Victoria who ruled Great Britain from 1837 to 1901. Victorian art can be divided into many forms like photography, paintings, sculptures, designs and illustrations.  You can see Victorian art in churches, houses built during those times and other important buildings. Victorian art was very unique and unusual. Artists used mainly bright and vibrant colors to depict different scenes.

The second half of the nineteenth century was one of the most fascinating and captivating period that is why it was also known as the positive age.  The artists made their arts and paintings after a close observation of human as well as natural forms. There was more emphasis on the quality than the quantity.

In queen Victoria's 64 years of reign, Britain became one of the most modern, powerful and wealthy country of the world. In this age alluring, elegant, splendid, high fashioned, rich, idealistic, passionate, romantic and eccentric styles were used, which were very appealing to the eyes. Romanticism, Impressionism, Classicism, Neoclassicism and Post-Impressionism are all covered in the Victorian Era.

Throwbacks; Tudor, medieval, Italianate were some of the most well liked architectural styles during the Victorian age.

The Classicism artists mainly focused on the accurate objective description of the things which are very ordinary.

Painting which depicted romantic scenes focused more on the natural appearance of emotions over true reasons. Romantic scenes were also shown by the artists in vibrant colors. The background of these paintings was usually kept very dark.

Another school of painting developed in the late 19th century which was known as Impressionism. This school mainly laid emphasizes on visual effects and impressions that changed with the light and paint.

There were some limitations to the impression school of painting that is why on its place Post-Impressionism developed.

Art was at its paramount in the Victorian Era, artists did the best to achieve the perfection that they wanted. The accuracy, brilliance and application of new technologies can be seen in the photography, architecture, painting, illustrations and sculptures of this age.

What are dates of all the English Eras (ex:Elizabethan, Victorian, Edwardian) and what are we in now?

I know some are literary, such as Restoration, and some are art, like Baroque, but does every monarch have an associated time period? I have searched the internet, but I really don't know what to look for so I get way too much information.

No, every monarch isn't associated (or named after) a time period. It's usually the more notable ones that receive this high honor. Usually during their reign there is great peace or advances in science, art, and learning. Basically, alot of important things happened in this period of time like the Pax Romana or the Renaissance. The eras you've listed are just associated with a great leader.
