can you get poisoned from a sand dollar?
Me and my brother were at Hilton head beach and there were these like sand dollar looking things all over the floor. my brother threw one at me and it hit me leaving these invisible like hairs in my skin. I didn't think to much of it but now its kinda bugging me. is this bad?
I don't believe sand dollars are poisonous at all seeing as how many people play with them, step on them, and collect them. most likely what your experiencing is similar to what happens when you mess with fiberglass insulation. The tiny hairs are stuck in your skin causing irritation much like a splinter would. However, due to the very small size, they are nearly impossible to remove and like fiberglass fibers, you just have to deal with the irritation for a few days. Your body will eventually get rid of them on its own. as with anything though, keep an eye on it and if swelling or extreme irritation persists (ie, it looks as if its getting significantly worse) or if you start to feel ill, check with a doctor...it may not be poisonous but you may have a bit of an allergic reaction.
