Cake Decorating With Sugar Flowers
Cake is made up of flour, sugar, butter, oil, eggs, nuts and cereals, fruits, fruit essence or extracts, leavening agents, milk and water. It is a spongy food that is sweet and is a baked dessert. Various fruity creams, butter creams, sugary flowers are used as a topping for cake as a decoration. Cakes are used as a centerpiece at weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, friends' parties and get-togethers.
There are varieties of cakes available according to the flavor, the fruit and also leavening agents such as yeasts. Making a cake is not a complicated process. The eggs are first beaten with sugar and fruit extracts or fruit essence is added to the mixture. Put milk, baking powder, flour, and leavening agent in a bowl and mix well thoroughly. Mix the contents gently. Bake at 180 degrees.
An important thing to be considered is decorating the cake. This enhances the finished cake. The decorating can be icing, frosting or topping. Icing is done by using icing sugar. Frosting is a mixture of icing sugar, milk and cream. Topping can be done by using some sugar flowers, fruits and colored creams. Sugar flowers for cake decorating can be easily made. The flowers are fashioned using sugary icing. Making sugar flowers takes some patience and requires appropriate tools such as a five petal flower cutter and a rolling pin.
Sugar flowers are made using thick sugar syrup. Roll the thickened sugar syrup using a rolling pin. Then, using the five petal cutter, cut out the rolled sugary paste into a flower shape. Dust the sugary flower with corn starch to prevent sticking. Transfer the flower onto the top of the cake as a decoration.
Many cakes look fabulous with the addition of sugar flowers. We can also add colors and flavors into the sugar paste to attain our favorite color sugar flowers. Similarly we can also make sugar leaves and sugar stems via the same technique. This will give more visual attraction to a wedding or anniversary cake. Practice is necessary for making perfect sugar flowers for cake decorating.
