Any theories about the characters Griffin and Sabine?

Are they separated by time, in parallel worlds, symptoms of Schizophrenia...?
It's been a while since I've read these, and I'm hoping for some closure. 
I don't think Bantock is aiming at allowing you to find that "closure"-- in fact, his work generally seems to be about problematizing, and introducing ambiguity of perspectives.
