How to Build a Wall Mounted Coat Rack
In general, coat racks are very good since they are able to help us hang precious suits and clothes without any sort of problem whatsoever. As a matter of fact, using a wall mounted coat rack is very good and also very appropriate too. In the first place, it keeps the coats clean for a very long time and this is usually the aim or wish of any one who builds one of them. It is therefore nice that, an individual often try as much as possible to see to it that, his or her coat rack is well made when that time is up.
When building a coat rack, there are usually procedures followed and the first procedure is that, it is usually the best to first of all measure the area where the coat rack will be placed. This is very important because there are usually instances whereby an individual might finish building the coat rack and will right away have problems finding a place to hang it. Or better still; the designated area does not fit well. All these are problems and as such should be avoided by doing the right thing. It is therefore good to decide how much clearance is needed and cut 1 by 8 board and 1 by 4 board of the same length. Moreover, on the 1 by 8 board, it is often appropriate to place a flat board and with what exactly will be the top of the coat rack shelf. Again measure over 2 off each edge and put a mark. With that, measure and mark every 4. Then measure from what will be the back edge of the shelf on each end. With the aid of a drill, put very small pilot holes in the screws and make sure to stay within the marks made.
Furthermore, a bead of wood glue is then applied to the top edge. From there, it is good to place, 1 by 8 on top of the 1 by 4 so they form an L shape. The drill is then used to screw the two boards together. Again it is good to sink the screws into the wood. All the excess glue available should be wiped away with a damp cloth. The screw areas should then be filled with wood filler. The whole thing can then be allowed for some few minutes after which grit sandpaper is used. The entire coat rack should be sand and also cleaned with a damp cloth. From this point, single or double hooks can then be added but this of course depends on the individual.
At this juncture, the coat rack can now be hanged. A stud finder is used to find two studs in the wall to mount to. Pilot holes should be drilled through the rack for the mounting screws. This is then finalised by hanging the coat rack into the wall. From this point an individual can now begin to hang his or her coats without any problem.

What type of wood should I use for my Resistant Materials project?
I'm currently designing my Final Project for my Resistant Materials course in High School. I'm going to make a wall mounted triangle with slots along the slopes to fit a series of gadgets within. Which wood should I use for this? The wood should be light.. Tell me some light woods that aren't too expensive and are easy to find & use.

I'm not sure I can visualize your project, but Western Cedar would be a good fit. It's highly resistant to insect/fungal attack and is one of the stronger cedars. It's also pretty light weight. I would recommend putting a coat of polyurethane on any type of wood you put outside, just as a general precaution and to help extend the life of the wood.
You could also up the weight a little and go with Locust or Walnut.
