Should I skip my homecoming dance?
I'm a senior this year, and I've never been to any school dance. I also plan on not going to the senior prom either. Its not worth going to, because I've never had a girlfriend and its rare if any girl likes me, much less the hot ones. I don't have much friends, so it's pointless on going. Also they play sh!tty mainstream music at these things, and I only like heavy metal. But my mom is a problem, she wants me to go to prom later this year, saying something about high school memories and me regretting it if I don't go. But I have nothing to regret. My years of high school have been crappy and nothing memorable has happened anyways.
Its also a money thing, the tickets cost 30 dollars a person and 50 for a couple. I don't get much money, so I'm saving up for something more important, Halo Reach, which comes out in less than 3 weeks, better use of my money, rather than waste it on some stupid dance.
High school sucked for me too, I had few friends and was the target of pretty much everything.
My best advice is to do what makes you happy. If its Halo, go for it. I remember plenty of high school friday nights scoring the top recruiting class in NCAA. Senior year, I went to homecoming and left after 15 minutes because I was so bored. Instead of going to prom, my two best friends and I got some awesome seats to a baseball game and had a blast. None of us have regretted it for a second, and none of us are losers because of it. We all have awesome jobs, have had plenty of girls (or for me, long term girlfriend) in college, and have a group of college friends who are not interested in superficial bs. I don't have awesome high school memories and I really don't care that I don't because not blending in allowed me to be happy with myself.
Besides, you're right about the music: I'm a late 60s early 70s classic rock guy, but I agree wholeheartedly: today's music sucks. My brother listens to rap exclusively and I feel like I want to put my head through the window.
