The Storybook Mystique Of Bideford, Devon
Visiting small, out of the way English villages that have been around for more than a thousand years can be inspiring and quite educational. The mix of old world charm and modern day changes offers a unique and engrossing atmosphere. Bideford-Devon is just such a place and presents a wonderful environment for local residents and visiting tourists alike. It's a very cool place.
The county (shire) of Devon is really quite beautiful and sometimes breath-taking to someone unfamiliar with the area. From the south coast around Teignmoth (known as the English Riviera) to the hills and famous wild horses of Dartmoor there are lots of things to see and do in this southwestern part of England. But the northern seaside areas of Devon around Bideford offer a unique charm all their own.
Entry to Bideford is made by traveling across a 13th century bridge that spans the River Torridge. The Long Bridge, as it is named, was built using a total of twenty-four arches, all of different sizes. Even after 800 years this marvel of engineering continues to live on as a constant reminder of the strong historic tradition of this quaint seaside village.
At one time, some five hundred years past, Bideford was England's third busiest port. Local myth claims that this was where Sir Walter Raleigh landed with the first samples of tobacco from the new world. This story is most likely not accurate but makes for great local legend. There is a hill and also several roads in the area that have been named in memory of Sir Walter.
Back in 1682 three women who were tried and convicted of witchcraft were hanged right in Bideford. These were the last ever witch hangings to occur in the country and adds more fodder for local legend. When a place has been around for more than a thousand years you can imagine some of the historical facts that can be uncovered with a little searching.
Author Charles Kingsley, who wrote a very well-known book entitled, "Westward Ho!" was from this area and it's also the setting for his famous novel. After publication of the book, a small seaside town of the same name was built about 3 miles from Bideford. The village of Westward Ho! remains the only place in England that contains an exclamation point in its name. Now THAT's a distinction!
Bideford today is a quaint location where the narrow streets lead down to a scenic tree-lined quay which is always bustling with fishing boats, pleasure craft and, most of all, cargo vessels. Bideford's main export is a very rare mineral called 'ball clay', which is used in the ceramics industry. This mineral is only found in a few places around the world and North Devon happens to be one of them. This, of course, is a big boost to the local economy and life is good there.
If you're going to be visiting England there are, of course, countless places to see and things to do there. If your travels bring you anywhere near the Bideford-Devon area, do yourself a favor and come see some of the most scenic and historic locations on the island. You won't regret it!

What software is better the Creative Memories storybook or Adobe Photoshop?
I already have the Creative Memory memory manager was thinking of purchasing storybook but this can get costly didn't realize you had to buy additional software for a certain type of storybook.
It really depends on what you want to do. Photoshop is expensive, but is going to be overall much more flexible to be able to do things besides scrapbooking. You might want to look into Photoshop Elements, which is the much less expensive consumer version of Photoshop. Any time you buy something that is for a limited purpose or niche market, that software is going to be limited too, and probably proportionally more expensive. Photoshop can be used for so many things beyond what you are doing.
However, I looked at what you are using, and although you'd be spending more money over the long run, if you don't want to do all the design work yourself, then you may want to go ahead and purchase this.
If you intend to do more than scrapbooking, if you want to do real photo editing and image manipulation work, then you will probably want to get Photoshop, but I do recommend Photoshop Elements. Yu will be able to find free templates on line (by searching) that you will be able to use in Photoshop, plus there are several companies where you can take your images and put them into books to be printed (even like scrapbooking books). Your local camera store or even your local pharmacy may offer services where you can put together books with background choices and so on.
Hope that helps.
