Resolving 'Your system is low on virtual memory...' PowerPoint error

• Your computer may stop responding on the slide with the damaged object and then you will receive the error message
• Note the location of the damaged object
• Now open the presentation on a Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer.
• Delete the damaged object

How do you increase the size of your virtual memory page (whatever that is)?

I got an error message saying windows was out of virtual memory and I needed to increase my virtual memory page. Does the average Joe know what that means? What is it talking about, and how do I do it?

When your PC processing needs more memory than the amount of RAM available, it uses 'VIrtual Memory', which is nothing more than hard drive space.

Virtual memory is not as efficient as RAM, but it allows the PC to complete the tasks assigned.

Normally, Windows manages the virtual memory in the background without a problem. However, if your primary hard drive is full to the brim with programs, photos, music, etc Windows cannot allocate hard drive space to use as virtual memory.

You can try to free up space on your hard drive by deleting things or by UNINSTALLING programs. Do not delete them.

You can also manage your paging file in Win XP by going to:

Start > My Computer > View System Information (Top Left).

Click on the Advanced tab and under Performance, click 'Settings'.

Under Performance Options, select the Advanced tab.

Under 'Virtual Memory', click 'Change'.

Here you can change the allocated page file size or select a different hard drive to be used for this function.

Proceed carefully. If anything a little too big is better than a little too small.
