Why do intrusive thoughts sometimes feel like false memories?
I have ocd and have had the problem that the ocd makes me think I've done bad things which I in reality know I haven't but it even creates pictures in my head of me doing these things. Why does OCD do this.
What your describing isn't OCD, OCD is a form of not being able to help yourself from doing certain activities you would not normally do. What your describing to me sounds like a form of almost post traumatic stress syndrome, caused by strong emotions or feelings on a certain subject. In other words you focused on something you found so horrible or strongly towards your brain is reacting to the trauma that it was put through while thinking of this. It is kinda like people who survive a fire and keep having flash backs, however there are people who witness fires or see people getting burned but also have flash backs even though they were not physically effected themselves. Now I dont mean you go out of your way to think of bad things and just cant get your mind off them. I mean something in your brain is triggered by a thought caused by an outside force. A simple example would be walking down a hallway and seeing someone drop their books. Your brain see that and your subconscious starts thinking of what the situation would look like if you had gone up to that person and pushed the books out of their hand. Then your brain starts thinking this and you begin to constantly think of it until you convince yourself it actually happened.
This would normally happen do to having an unbalance of hormones, which im thinking is causing a form of depression, or anxiety both which is closely related to ocd. The depression causes an imbalance of dopamine in your brain, which believe it or not makes your brain think "unhappy" thoughts. Thats why medications to treat depression, ocd, and anxiety such as wellbutrin increases the amount of dopamine in your brain, creating "happy" thought in your brain.
I suggest talking to your doctor about this, as I personally suffer from severe depression and I used to get these types of thoughts as well, not to the point where I began to believe them but the fact the thoughts were there means I could have. After being on this medication for a month I've noticed a huge change in the way I think and feel. Check it out it may help
