Lion King Musical that become huge hit even before it was premiered on Broadway
In any year there are very few entertaining shows that got immense public attention and become instant success even before their premiers and same happened to the famous "Lion King Musical" that become huge hit even before it was premiered on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater on October 15, 1997 and first official opening November 13, 1997. The Lion King Musical is based on the 1994 animated film by Disney and it music was produced by legendary musician Elton John and produced by Disney Theatrical. It has now become one of the eight longest running shows in the Broadway's history. Soon after Lion King hit the theater it instantly brought the people of all ages to the venue as it was a story of love and redemption that everyone loves to see.
The Lion King Musical has been running successfully since its opening and its shows are performed not in US but also in other countries including UK and Canada and since then shows have won many notable awards and have been witnessed by over 50 million people. This week Lion king show is being played at the Minskoff Theatre in Broadway 7 days a week. Lion King Show has come to Chicago today on 28th October at Cadillac Palace and it will run through Nov 27. It will be at Mandalay Bay – Theatre of Las Vegas until 28 Feb. 2011. The Lion King is also going to open in other countries such Norfolk, London, Durham and Toronto. These shows will run in different dates from October 2010 to the mid of 2011. You can check for the exact dates later online. Alton Fitzgerald White better known as his Lion King's name Mufasa is offering a benefit holiday concert at Triad Theatre on Dec. 13 to her co-star Shannon Tavarez known as her Lion King name Nala who was diagnosed with AML - a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.
The magical Lion King Musical will also debut in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands at a specially-designed Sands Theatre in March 2011.

What comparissons can you draw between Hamlet and the Lion King?
I've been told that the lion king is loosely based off of the story of hamlet....but what comparisons can you find between the two?
Well, Simba (Hamlet)'s father Mufasa (Old Hamlet) is killed by his uncle Scar (Claudius). Scar (Claudius) was jealous of his older brother being king, so he killed him then plotted to kill his nephew Simba (Hamlet). Simba (Hamlet) is then left to be raised by his murderous uncle Scar (Claudius) and his mother Sarabi (Gertrude). Simba (Hamlet) is friends with Nala (Ophelia). Timon and Pumba (Rosencrantz and Gildenstern) are his trusty advisors and friends. Eventually the jealous and murderous Scar (Claudius) is killed. Later to come, it could be argued that Kovu could be Laertes. Although none (except Mufasa and Scar) are killed like in the tragedy of Hamlet, many of the similarities are present. See them now?
