how to get my 3yr old daughter to sit for her first haircut?
i tried today and she went hysterical and nearly made herself sick! i would really like to get it cut before xmas. any pointers???? thanks!
it was at the hairdresser. we did try and distract her with things, but it didnt work.
We've only had our son's hair cut by pros, twice, but he's a lot younger and both stylists had a number of tricks they used. First, they let me or my husband hold him. They let him play with all of the (obviously not scissors) implements a bit - comb, hairdryer. One of the stylists had a little LED sort of toy (not sure what it was, I wasn't there that time) that he gave to our toddler to hold. They NEVER held his head or restrained him in any way or asked us to do that - they just sort of flitted around, cutting bits of hair as he turned his head this way and that. They were both chatty and kept the mood light.
I think you could adapt some of these techniques to your daughter. Give her some control over the situation, do it in a couple of sessions if you have to.
