Take a Good Look at the Gbc Proclick P50 Binding Punch
If you need a portable desktop punching machine, you should take a look at the GBC Proclick P50. It's small size and portability works great with the GBC Proclick Binding System it was designed for. Easy to use and incredibly efficient, the Proclick P50 allows users to edit documents after opening them in the field, using only a zipper tool that is small enough to fit into a pocket, easily. As a matter of fact, the P50 is so portable, you can keep it in a brief case or car and punch documents on the go. This portability also makes it perfect for home or light volume office use
The Proclick P50 is very simple to operate. All you have to do is insert up to 4 pages into the punch slot and slide the handle over the document. It's just that easy. Although the tool is rated to punch up to 6 sheets, it's much easier to punch only 4 at a time. Conversely, only one sheet can also be hard to punch due to the lack of rigidity. The perfect amount of pages is actually three or four sheets and a cover. The Proclick P50 is the most simple to use when on flat, hard surfaces, in a stable area where the punch won't move. So if you use the P50 in a mobile situation, the vehicle must be at a complete stop.
The Proclick P50 can work on a letter sized sheet and an oversized cover. All it takes to align them is to line up the edge of the paper with the right guide on the machine. This way you can make your punches quickly and easily. The lightweight Proclick P50 only weighs a few pounds and its portability makes it the perfect machine for any company with a team of sales reps or other field executives. There are many companies that may have a larger machine in their office, but use the P50 just for use in the field for quick changes or additions. This works great because the P50 makes it so simple to insert additional literature or sales sheets into a document or report at a moment's notice.
In addition to in-the-field applications, the Proclick P50 is a very good option for in-home users or very small offices who want to see how great color coil binding can make a document look. A 3:1 pitch spiral coil can be used to create an extremely cost-effective binding option. This application only requires a pair of oversized oval coil crimpers. With the crimpers you can cut the excess coil off and bend it at the ends so the coil won't spin back during binding.
The punch capacity for the Proclick P50 is very limited. The machine's four-sheet limit makes binding any more than one or two 50-100-page projects at a time completely untenable for most offices. Any cost that you may have saved for the machine will be lost in slower productivity, so if volume is a concern, you will probably want to go with a larger system. Additionally, the P50 cannot finish a document, it can only activate the punch. As for spine closure, every box of Proclick spines comes with a zipper tool that can be used to close the spine, although you might just find it easier to hand-snap the rings together.
For oversized documents, the P50 has the ability to punch a document with an 11" binding edge, or a 11.25" x 8.75" cover. Other sizes are not so easy, however. Because the Proclick P50 does not have an open-throat design, it doesn't work very well when punching a document that is longer. In addition, the fact that there are no disengageable die pins, which can also make it hard to punch a shorter document, which can leave a hole on the edge of the document. This should all be taken into consideration before you make your final decision.
For those who need a binding punch for use at home, or for use on the road, then the Proclick P50 is the right machine for you. It's a very convenient, versatile and portable and can be used almost anywhere, even making edits on the run. For larger-volume projects, however, the Proclick P50 can't stand up to extremely heavy use, and is inefficient for these kinds of projects. If you need to produce more than a few documents each week, you may be better served with another option.
