Why is silicone rubber valuable?

Silicone rubber is highly valued material – because it has various physical properties that are not found other polymers.

Its organic materials can melt or decompose.

Silicone rubber is impervious to weather, aging, heat, sunlight, moisture, cold, and some chemical assaults. It sticks, bond, or couples things together.

Unique surface properties further distinguish silicone rubber from other materials.

In addition to rubber, silicone can also be fluids. It is perfect for applications like paper release agents, fibre lubricants, mould release agents, antifouling materials, and water repellents.

In fact, silicone, because of its special surface properties, has been used in foam control and as anticaking aids, corrosion inhibitors, emulsifiers, lubricants, conditioners, and gloss enhancers.

Silicone is an important part of your daily life. It makes clothing feel softer, help hair to shine and skin to feel silky.

Silicon-based materials are used in food and to control foam. Protecting surfaces is another. They lubricate and protect critical surfaces.

Silicone can be found in automobiles, buildings, and homes. This allows for the construction of skyscrapers, aquariums and bathtubs.

Every day, people come into contact with many products that have silicone in them - owing to its unique properties.

There are hundreds of uses for silicone rubber – being one of the most versatile materials available. It is found in an extremely wide range of applications.

After being mixed and coloured, silicone rubber can be extruded into tubes, strips, solid cord or bespoke shapes of any design.

Cord can be joined to make O-rings and silicone extrusions can be joined to make seals.

Silicone rubber is a domestic material. Products that include silicone rubber are now found in every home. In addition to cooking, food storage, clothes, electronics, and hardware it is found in numerous unseen appliances.

Even solar heating uses silicone rubber, in which the elasticity of the materials helps panels resist high or low temperatures. Silicone rubber is also chemically robust - which stops waterborne bacteria, such as Legionella, from freezing.

Silicone rubber tape – combined with iron oxide - is used extensively is aviation because it is non-flammable.

Owing to the fact that iron oxide adds the thermal conductivity, without changing the insulation of the silicone rubber, it is used in wiring. Silicone rubber tape can self-fuse or amalgamate without any added adhesive.

More recently, silicone rubber became part of the first self-healing material. Amazingly, this material is capable of recovering its original strength.

Fix a torn rubber surrounding on a Digital Design sub?

Its been sitting in my garage for quite some time. I was wondering if i can repair this on my own, everything else on the sub seems to be fine, its just the rubber surrounding thats torn. Is there some type of rubber cement that I could use or material that I could stick on? I really dont want to get it reconed (shipping 50lbs back and forth + recone price).
