Adding Some Spice to Your Outdoor Area With Wooden Garden Furniture and Decking
An outdoor space is simply a space until you start adding some personal odds and ends to make it YOUR space. There are so many things you can add into your outdoor area to make it as quaint and quiet or as glamorous and elegant, one of these options is wooden garden furniture. The cool thing about this furniture is that it comes in so many different options, sizes, styles, colors and types of woods that you can really find something for your personality and the overall theme of your outdoor space.
It does not matter if it is a garden, a deck, a yard, or anything else in between, these wooden garden furniture products are sure to add an extra little something to the space. First off, you need to look at the space you have - if it is quite large then you could consider adding in quite a few items like tables, chairs, benches, BBQ grill huts, and even swings! If you have a smaller space, you could consider a Bistro table and two chairs or a side table that folds up for extra space! Next, you need to figure out what kind of wood you want to use.
If you have a lot of rain or elements in the area you live in, then a harder wood with a finish or seal would probably be the best way to go. See hardwoods like walnut, oak, maple, cherry, teak and Shesham. Teak is one of the more popular option because it is really good with moisture, it really just slides off of it like water off a duck's back! It is also pretty resistant of cracking and warping like other softer woods and is a superb option for any outdoor projects containing wood like shudders, doors, frames, etc.
Softer woods are light weight and less expensive, but if you buy these you might have to re-buy in a few months time. Softwoods include hemlock, fir, redwood, spruce and pine. You can also go for really cheap wood types, but these are really not the best option for wooden garden furniture; MDF, chipboard and plywood. If you have ever bought a TV stand or microwave cart that was made out of MDF or chipboard you know why I say this is not the best wood to go with.
Lastly, you need to figure out if you should paint over it or seal it. Some of the softer woods do need to be sealed because bugs can eat into the woods which causes it to disintegrate over a short period of time. For most woods that are made to produce wooden garden furniture I would really suggest keeping it as is as far as color goes. That is after all one of the main reasons people like this kind of furniture - the deep rich colors, the visual grains, and with a lot of types of wood - age only makes it that much better!

how to insulate my summerhouse?
i have a timber frame summerhouse and want to insulate it. Now im a bit stuck on how to do this as I know there are a number of layers involved. The walls are all bare wood at the moment, no vapour barriers at all. Hoping someone can tell me step by step what goes first etc... or point to a diagram?
Is it vapour barrier first, then celotex, then plasterboard or chipboard
or is it celotex first, then vapour barrier, then plasterboard or chipboard
Someone I know has clad the internal walls with a chipboard, is this better than plasterboard?
Also what are the advantages of using a Vapourshield Plasterboard?
A couple of basics:
a) the vapor barrier wants to be on the 'warm' side of the house. In most cases and with a northern climate, that would be on the inside. However if you are cooling the house most of the time, you could consider putting it on the outside. So, whatever actual insulation system you choose, the vapor barrier wants to be the very first thing on the *WARM* side of the system.
b) You could solve for both issues by using a spray-foam insulation. There are some very, very good systems out there that may be a little bit more expensive in first-cost than other insulation systems, but the vapor barrier issue is entirely solved as the foam itself becomes the vapor barrier and works equally well for heating and for cooling. The foam is also relatively much thinner per unit of R-value than any sort of glass or cellulose material. It also gets into all the nooks and crannies, is not affected by moisture, is not liked by vermin and does not have any 'handling' problems. This material may also be used horizontally or vertically, can be sprayed overhead and so forth. And it also comes in kits that you may do yourself if you are even moderately handy. c) The actual interior finish you install should be driven by aesthetics - with due accommodation for fire safety and longevity. What is 'better' is what you like.
But, as a direct answer to your question - if you are insulating-to-heat, install the insulation then the vapor barrier, then the interior finish. If you are insulating-to-cool, then vapor-barrier, insulation, then the interior finish.
