How are you suppose to display the American Flag?
I'm looking to display the American flag outside my home, and know there is certain etiquette, and proper ways to handle the flag at different times of the year. Anyone have some good resources to help me get some answers? Thanks!
A few things you should be aware of when displaying your American flag:
1) If you are displaying it horizontally or vertically against a wall, always remember that the union should be uppermost to the flags own right (to the observers left). Never, ever, display another flag or pennant placed above the flag.
2) When flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the American flag should be hoisted first, and lowered last.
3) When displaying flags of two or more nations they should be flown from separate staffs of the same height, neither flag should be larger than the other.
4) There are several times that a flag should be at half staff. When flown at half-staff, you should hoist to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should then again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
