Things To Do In London - Top 10 Things To Do In London Part 1
Looking for things to do in London? Well if you're thinking of visiting London for a weekend break or for the day, then you're sure to want to find Lot's of things you'll want to do in London during your stay. London is full of exiting and wonderful attractions and sites to see, and here we've compiled part 1 of what we think are the top 10 things to do in London.
Things To Do In London #1: The Imperial War Museum
No trip to London would be complete without you visiting the Imperial war museum. The museum was founded during the first world war in 1917 and was intended as a record of the war effort and sacrifice of Britain and her empire. It was originally housed in the crystal palace at Sydenham hill and opened to the public in 1920. The museums collection includes archives of personal and official documents, photographs, film and video material and oral history recordings; an extensive library, a large art collection and examples of military vehicles and aircraft, equipment and other artefact's. It's number 1 on our list, and certainly worth putting on YOUR list of things to do in London!
Things To Do In London #2: Churchill War Rooms
The Churchill war rooms is another museum in London and comprises the cabinet war rooms, a historic underground complex that housed a British government command centre throughout the second world war, and the Churchill museum, a biographical museum exploring the life of British statesman Winston Churchill. We visited this place last year as one of our things to do in London as a family and loved it. The museum makes extensive use of audiovisual technology, with the centerpiece being an interactive 15 metre table that enables visitors to access digitized material, particularly from the Churchill archives centre, via an electronic filing cabinet. The Churchill museum is one of the most visited museums in the united kingdom. Visitors can explore Churchill's childhood and read his letters and school reports. Highly recommended as one of your things to do in London.
Things To Do In London #3: The National Gallery
The national gallery in London was founded in 1824 and houses a rich collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid 13h century to 1900 in it's home on Trafalgar square. It's collection belongs to the public of the united kingdom and entry to the main collection is free of charge. You can see paintings from some of the worlds greatest artists including Vincent van gogh, Leonardo da vinci, Rembrandt, Renoir and Gainsborough. There are also special exhibitions, lectures, video and audio visual programmes, guided tours and holiday events for children and adults. We've been here on quite a few occasions and always make it one of our things to do in London.
Things To Do In London #4: The Houses Of Parliament
The exterior of the palace of Westminster, especially the clock tower is recognised worldwide, and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in London. Although there is no casual access to the interior of the palace, there are several ways to gain admittance. UK residents may obtain tickets from their local MP for a place in the viewing gallery of the house of commons, or from a lord for a seat in the gallery of the house of lords. Probably not one of the most fun things to do in London if you have kids, but great for adults. It is also possible for both UK residents and overseas visitors to queue for admission on the day, but capacity is limited and there is no guarantee of admission. You can climb the clock tower and see big ben, watch debates from the public galleries and attend committee meetings when the houses are sitting. There are also a variety of exhibitions and events hosted throughout the year. Check it out if you're looking for things to do in London.
Things To Do In London #5: The Tower Of London
Her majesty's royal palace and fortress, more commonly known as the tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the river Thames. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the norman conquest of England.
The white tower, which gives the entire castle it's name, was built by William the conqueror in 1078, and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite. You can view the white tower, see 500 yrs of spectacular royal armour, see lady Jane's graffiti, join a yeoman warder tour and see the crown jewels.
