Acrylic frames are a modern way of displaying posters, photos or artwork. Acrylic sandwich frames are made up of two acrylic panels usually 5mm to keep the cost down and are then held together with sign supports usually referred to as standoffs. The standoffs are attached to the wall to hold the sandwich of panels together which traps the images within the centre. This allows the image to be easily changed as the image is not permanently fixed to the acrylic panels.
Acrylic panel frames can usually be made into any size although the most poplular sizes are standard photographic sizes such as 8x10 inch, 12 x16 inch and 18 x24 inch. The back panel on the frames is usually a coloured panel most popular is black or white but other coloured perspex is sometimes available upon request. The image usually sits within the centre of the panels therefore the back panel is visible creating a border around the image.

It's not an age thing. It is an "I'm your mom and responsible for you" thing. Moms (well, parents) in general are going to make rules that you won't agree with. They (usually) have good reasons for their rules. Until you are old enough to not have to live by mom and dad's rules, then you accept what you have.
